3,2,1, take off!
After weeks of preparation, anxiety and sleepless nights, the day had come – May 13th. We took off from First Lutheran Church in Brookings after a wonderful breakfast sendoff, organized by Tonya from Reflections Hair Designs and Jenna from The Chick'n Shack
As we neared take off, the setting became emotional. The five of us were a little overwhelmed at the tremendous response and support that our families, friends and community members gave us so far. We could not be more grateful. Thank you.
FIRST DAY!
Our first ride was approximately 35 miles to Lake Poinsett where we met up with Mike’s family at his cabin.
As predicted, we started off with plenty of energy but the sleeplessness soon caught up with us. Not to mention we were going against 20 mph winds the whole time. But short breaks, granola bars and a soccer ball kept our spirits up during the break.
As of now, we are enjoying a wonderful breakfast of pancakes, sausages and fresh fruit provided by Marilyn and Doug Amen. Today we will bike about 26 miles to Watertown, our next stop!
GOFUNDME IS LIVE!
Our Gofundme account is now live! As of now right now, all the money we raise is going to help build a high school for an orphanage in Honduras. Here is a link to the GoFundme if you are interested: www.gofundme.com/thegreat48
In the meantime, we are about ready to get going! Next stop: Watertown!

Woo hoo! Excited for y’all. Glad to be present at your send-off, and wishing you all the best. (I’d say “Break a leg,” but maybe that’s not the best way to wish cyclists luck!) Thanks for all you are doing. You’re fine young men.
